Microsoft Launches HDInsight for Ubuntu Linux on its Azure Cloud
FREMONT, CA: Microsoft is all geared up for its strategic alliance with Caninical, Ubuntu’s parent company and Hortonworks which has selected Ubuntu to provide Linux-based software-as-a-service offering and make it possible to run HDInsight on Microsoft’s Azure cloud, reports Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols for ZDNet.
This availability of Azure HDInsight on Ubuntu Linux include a service level optimization along with technical support for stack with the choice of running Hadoop workloads on Hortonworks Data Platform in Azure HDInsight using Ubuntu or Windows. It will scale to petabytes on demand and process unstructured and semi-structured data with zero maintenance expenses and no hardware required.
“A key goal for both companies is to enable hybrid cloud computing, Organizations have embraced HDInsight on Ubuntu because it makes it easier to move from their on-premises Hadoop deployments to the cloud." This is all part of Microsoft’s Azure Data Lake plans to use Hortonworks' Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) to handle Big Data on the cloud,” says John Zannos, Canonical's VP of Cloud Alliances and Ecosystem.
Since today every organization is looking for the best platform to manage their workload in an appropriate way, this collaboration will provide customers an option to run Azure HDInsight workloadson Ubuntu for windows by giving Azure customers flexibility in their Big Data processing decisions, both on premise and in the cloud. This will result in optimized management of data; increased market opportunities which can be deployed on both Windows and Linux; streamlined work process by visualizing Hadoop data in Excel.
