Clinivation: Delivering the Digital Advantage to Outperform in New Global Business Environments

With global health care reform, the number one challenge facing many life sciences companies i s: H ow to achieve growth in the new global health care environments? Clinivation answers this challenge with information technology. “We believe that enabling innovation with information technology can drive business growth,” says Joseph Kozikowski, M.D., clinivation’s CEO. “And we’re convinced that life sciences companies which effectively leverage digital advantages in global development and commercialization can outperform their peers and their historical growth results,” he continued.

Partnered with Microsoft, clinivation technology yields new, scalable operating models that directly connect life science innovation with business growth. “To achieve growth, our clients work in agile, cross-functional teams that innovate, advance, and scale- at rates much faster than their centralized systems can ever change,” explains Kozikowski.

Clinivation is a keen observer of the evolution of hyperscale cloud computing and the Microsoft A zure Stack.“ This i s very interesting to us, because the future product lifecycles of the next-generation of biopharma and medtech innovations will involve curating and processing unprecedented amounts of unstructured and semi-structured data,” remarked Kozikowski. “And the new class of advanced medical electronics that aims to achieve semi-autonomous, closed-loop patient management by converging multiple embedded systems with interoperating data centers will require astronomical levels of data and computing,” he continued.

Clinivation believes that Azure microservices technology is well-positioned to address these life sciences computing challenges. “It’s a hyperscale cloud technology that bakes scalability into application architecture, so that stateful microservices with HTTP/ REST endpoints, for example, can be deployed independently, scaled on clusters, and assembled into powerful applications,” explains Kozikowski. “Centralized implementation of security, monitoring, and governance is simplified with a gateway, and Azure Service Fabric now provides mature tooling to address issues intrinsic to distributed systems- such as transactional integrity, auto-scaling, replication, partitioning, and load balancing,” he continued.

We believe that the convergence of digital health with the digital enterprise is upon us and will revolutionize the way the next generation of life science innovation advances from development to global patient access

Clinivation is also pursuing initiatives with Azure Infrastructure Services, which can extend their customers’ infrastructure to support clinivation applications. “What’s new is that the historically conservative biopharma and medtech industries are increasingly open to using cloud technology for data that’s consumed by both corporate and departmental functions,” remarked Kozikowski.

Driving fast time-to-value, Clinivation Cloud uses secure infrastructure from Microsoft to provide customer-specific portfolios of interoperating applications with a managed private cloud services delivery model. For example, clinivation Cloud can immediately enable full transparency and governance for executive leadership, and informed, synchronized action among the commercial, HEOR, clinical, and regulatory teams. This drives business growth with new, scalable operating models that replace working-in-a-silo with cross-functional teamwork and knowledge at the point of action.

Clinivation’s successful work with a growth-stage medtech client- a division of a large multinational- illustrates this well. As the client launched in the major world markets, the inevitable “status meeting” presentations, spreadsheet farms, and ad hoc filing systems emerged- and immediately started to break down. “What they needed were scalable systems to enable their business growth, so we implemented solutions to enable international revenue growth, commercial operations, and global clinical strategy,” Kozikowski described. With scalable systems, the client surpassed its growth expectations.

Looking forward, clinivation sees a convergence of digital health with the digital life sciences enterprise. Accordingly, they have extended their platform to deliver real-world intelligence from digital health directly into the enterprise cross-functional workflow. “It’s important to note that our Microsoft partnership is of great value in helping us forecast the future technology environment of cross-functional enterprise workflow, which is critical to team performance,” concludes Kozikowski.
